The Russian National Team's exhibition
with the Meron's Expos was shortened to four innings by the prospect of
lightning storms in the vicinity. The following coverage is

Despite the unfortunate weather, the event was considered
a great experience by players and fans alike. The Expos would like
to thank both Bob Protexter of
russianbaseball.org and the Russian players and coaches for
providing the opportunity to play a game of such unique stature in the
Champlain Valley. Thanks also go out to those who helped to make
the event possible: sponsors Pella Windows, Northern Sanitation, Jim
Calnon, Lashway's Meat Market, and of course Meron's Restaurant, along
with all those who volunteered their time in helping to prepare (and so
deftly relocating) the field.
Those deserving of particular mention include Jim Goff of
ORDA, who coordinated the Russian
team's trip to Lake Placid; Foxy Gagnon and
WIRY for their local media coverage of
the game; David Davis for his (often challenging) public address work;
Athletic Director Bruce Delventhal, Field House Director Mark
Christensen, and their
Plattsburgh State Athletics staff for their help and flexibility
with regard to preparation and use of their facilities; and Courtland
Wood and Michaelea Bushey for their beautiful renditions of the Russian
and American national anthems.
Most of all, thanks to the fans for braving the elements to show their
support for high-quality baseball in the North Country. Things
certainly didn't go as well as they could, but you helped us do the best
with what we had.
